All About the
Ronnie Mead and his family moved to Kennedy in 1971. That year Ronnie Mead purchased Cross's Red & White. This was a mom & pop store on the corner of Dailey Hill Road and Route 394.
While operating the store in 1974 Ronnie purchased a funeral home that was next to the store on rt.394. The following year the Eccles bait store was purchased in 1975. This provided enough room to build a larger store and have more parking.
In 1976 construction for the new store was started. The store was completed right next to the existing building. The move to the new store was done during the blizzard of 77. The business was then incorporated as R.J. Mead Inc. The new store was called Kennedy Supermarket. At that time the store included a restaurant/coffee shop. The gas pumps were installed in 1980.
Ronnie and Bonnie Mead operated the business until 1991 when their son, Tim and his wife Sandy purchased the store. They have been operating the store to this day and many upgrades have been made. At that time Tim decided to join Olean Wholesale grocery co-op. This turned out to be a good decision with the co-op's Shurfine products and great meat items.
The restaurant was closed in 1993 to make room for a large snack and beverage area. All of the freezers and display coolers have been upgraded one by one.In 2008 an addition was put on the east side of the building to provide a can return area, cart storage and display space. The latest upgrade is the newest state of the art scanning registers with intergraded credit card system.
